Choro Camp New England 2024

Choro Camp New England 2024

17-23 June 2024 - The Choro Camp in New England (USA) is taking place for the 4th year running. Are you also fascinated by Choro (Chorinho)? Here's your chance to make music at a multi-day intensive workshop with all Choro instruments and levels and learn lots of new things! Newcomers are very welcome too!

The musical genre of Choro, also known as Chorinho, originated in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-19th century, where the music of the Portuguese court (social dances such as Polka, Waltz and Scottish) met the music of the Afro-Brazilians. Over the last 150 years, Choro has developed into a fascinating genre in its own, finding favour with enthusiasts of Brazilian percussion, but also with classically oriented musicians. Choro is characterised by colourful rhythms typical of Samba, beautiful harmonies, which are usually played in small ensembles and can also be found in larger constellations in modern music. Choro features string and even wind instruments. Then there are sanfona, pandeiro, 7-corda (7-string guitar) and bandolim. Even big bands and piano arrangements have been published. A strong virtuoso solo character is typical of Choro music. A roda de Choro is one of the most beautiful types of live music you can ever experience. You can find out more about the history of Choro here.

The Choro Camp takes place annually in New England, USA, and invites all friends of Chorinho to experience an unforgettable musically rich and inspiring week.
