About this album
The recordings made by Pixinguinha and Benedicto Lacerda in the 40’s and 50’s represent a milestone in the history of Brazilian music. The phonographic records were left on RCA discs and live recordings on the weekly radio show hosted by radio broadcaster Almirante (Henrique Foreis Domingues – 1908/1980) “O Pessoas da Velha Guarda,” with musical direction by Pixinguinha, which aired between 1947 and 1952.
This work focuses on the full transcription of the counterpoints performed or arranged by Pixinguinha on the tenor sax from established recordings, with four of the six compositions in this work coming from recordings of Almirante's program. Not only the first exposition of each part of the choro is transcribed, but also all the repetitions of each part, revealing Pixinguinha's creativity and genius.
Of the six compositions listed below, four are being commercially published for the first time: “Aí, Seu Pinguça,” “Segura a Mão (Roceira),” as well as “Urubu Malandro” and “Jurity” with complete improvisations of the flute by Benedicto Lacerda and the sax by Pixinguinha.
Each song in this work comes with: – score for solo and 7-string guitar (except “Urubu Malandro”) in C, B flat and E flat. – counterpoint score with full transcription of Pixinguinha's sax realizations or arrangements in C, B flat and E flat. – complete audio with base music, solo and counterpoint. – separate playbacks covering each possibility: base music without flute and without sax, base with flute and without sax, base without flute and with sax.
Study hard and have fun!
