Single-layered 12 “ nylon head by Contemporânea for repinique, caixa, repique de mão, 12'' timbal etc.
A once and for all drum head! 12'' heads is probably the most commonly used size for repiniques and caixas, which is why a 12'' head belongs in every sambista emergency spare part set! Last but not least this head has top sound qualities and can be used on both sides of your caixa or repinique (batter- and resonance head approved). Single-layered nylon heads are the thinner standard version by Contemporânea and are very responsive with a clear, light sound and intentionally rich in overtones due to their vibrating stronger than thicker heads. This head is a standard option for 12'' repiniques and caixas. You will notice that between putting a new head on and playing on it for a while the sound will change positively. A new head might sound a bit whiny in the beginning, but as soon as it gets used to the tension and the rim of the shell, the sound will settle. As usual - good things are worth waiting for. A thin nylon head is suitable for you if you like the clear and light sound and if you want a head with an easy response.
Make sure to have a spare single layer 12'' in your gig bag, like this you have a spare for both sides of your instrument and are prepared for all eventualities!

This brand has a long tradition and good reputation in Brazil. Intensive contact to the musicians has always been an important part of their business strategy. They not only sell instruments, but mainly live their music. Every Saturday morning, many musicians meet up in CONTEMPORÂNEA´S music shop in the historic center of São Paulo. In a special back room, musicians of every age play Choro. The pagodeiros meet up in front of the shop for playing their sessions. CONTEMPORÂNEA has two lines: CONTEMPORÂNEA LIGHT and CONTEMPORÂNEA PRO.
The instruments of the LIGHT line are made of matt aluminium. Kept in a simple design and not being polished, the LIGHT line can be offered at a lower price and without suffering quality loss in terms of sound or durability. The robust PRO line is made of polished aluminium or wood.
Compared to other brands that also use aluminium for building instruments, CONTEMPORÂNEA instruments made from aluminium stand out by being built of thicker material which provides a massive sound to repinique, caixa and surdo, but therefore also a higher weight.

Very poor after service
I bought a pandeiro head in good faith. It was substandard and unplayable. I got in touch to explain I was unhappy and was told I didn’t know what I was talking about. (I have been a professional percussionist for over 30 years and own a number of pandeiros of various make!). I re explained the problem. Didn’t receive an offer of replacement or refund. Very disappointing.
