Pandeiro Guide: Ijexá, Samba de Caboclo, Maculelê, Rhythms of the Candomblé
Course language: English
Want to go deeper? Ritual drumming still forms a big part of Brazil's music. Whilst many of the rhythms have been taken over in Axé, MPB and Brazilian Pop music, there is still a strong culture of traditional drumming all over the country. For example, the Ijexá is a rhythm played by the Afoxés and their blocos. The rhythm is also common in the ritual drumming of Candomblé where it is played on atabaques and an agogo bell. Maculelê is often seen in Capoeira music, beautiful Cabila, Congo and Barravento bring the African flavours to your pandeiro. Last but no least - the complex rhythms of Lê, Rumpi and Rum (atabaque voices) with their bell patterns. Travel to another world of musical possibilities and discover the beauty of ritual drumming transferred to the pandeiro.
