Clip-on mic – If you want to have freedom to move around when you play you will need a clip-on mic. For years pandeiro players have had to improvise their own mounts or use clips that were designed for horn players that couldn’t be depended on when you really hit the pandeiro hard. There are quite a few clip-on mics from companies like AKG, Shure and AudioTecnica.

Standard mic - If you don’t mind having to stay positioned over a microphone on a stand then something like a Shure SM58 is a good choice. One advantage is being able to control your distance to it and hence, the dynamics. With a clip-on mic this must come from your hands.
